The trend of piercing has taken the world over for many decades now and this beautification accessory for the body parts has gone beyond the boundaries of ear piercing, nose piercing or navel piercing. People these days, especially youngsters, are fancying the trend of genital piercing which sounds crazy but is a rage these days. As compared to the conventional piercings, genital piercing is a very personal option and is taken up by only a few people who are ready to do so.

The piercing is done near the genitalia and people who get it done say that it increase the sexual pleasure in both men and women. Quite predictably, genital piecing is one of the most painful piercings one can go for since it is done in a very sensitive area of the body. Surprisingly, this type of piercing has many different options for the men and women who want to get it done.

It pains way more than any other piercing as the needle penetrates deep beneath the layers of skin, therefore, there are numbing creams which can lower down the pain for a stress-free procedure. But one question that still remains, should one use numbing creams in sensitive genital areas? This depends on the sensitivity threshold of the individual and the kind of numbing cream that is being used. Too strong numbing creams are not advised for genital piercings as they can trigger an allergic reaction or induce a set of complications which can alter the condition of skin temporarily.

Topical numbing creams like DrNumb having 5% lidocaine, act as a local anesthetic to get through the painful experience in a subtle way. Creams having 5% lidocaine are recommended for piercing as they don’t have any side effects for normal skin and they can suppress the pain to a certain level. 5%

Topicaine numbing gel is also a good option for this type of piercing as it is more effective than Lidocaine but can be too strong for some people, triggering an allergic reaction. Unlike tattoo, the numbing cream will not provide a very deep painless experience, but it will soothe the pain a bit. In a way it can also be said that there is a placebo effect which tricks the client into believing that applying numbing cream decreases the pain.

Things to keep in mind before using numbing cream for genital piercing

Body’s natural reaction to piercing

Since the piercing should be done in a way that it doesn’t penetrate the vital nerves, numbing creams can mask the pain if the nerve is pierced. This is not ideally preferred as puncturing a nerve can have serious complications. If the client can bear the pain, it is advised to not use a numbing cream.

Allergic reaction

Numbing cream can trigger an allergic reaction which can cause irritation and pain, thereby making the piercing very hard to perform for the professionalpiercer.

Difficult to pierce

When topical numbing creams are applied to the genitals, it becomes difficult to go for the piercing as the skin surface becomes hard to hold.

The pain is instantaneous

Unlike getting a tattoo in sensitive areas, piercing is a painful experience for just a few seconds, therefore one should be ready mentally for the procedure.
